Focused on developing key alloys for the MX series metal 3D printers.
Continuum Powders’ metal powder materials are to be qualified for use on the Mastrex MX series of laser powder bed fusion machines as the two companies enter into a strategic engagement to better support metal additive manufacturing prototyping and production.
During the initial stages, qualification efforts will focus on cobalt chrome, Ti-6Al-4V, 17-4 stainless steel, and future metals may include nickel-based superalloys and copper-nickel alloys.

Continuum and Mastrex plan to optimize processing parameters and establish repeatable performance across the MX platform. By qualifying laser powder bed fusion systems that are compatible with these key alloys, Mastrex can provide definitive recipes for customers who are utilizing the technology for medical, aerospace, defense, and heavy equipment applications.
“Mastrex entered the market with the aim of providing high-quality LPBF technology while at the same time lowering the barrier of entry,” says Ilay Fridland, Partner at Mastrex. “Customers are looking for complete manufacturing solutions, not disconnected pieces of the process. Collaboration closely with Continuum allows us to optimize materials alongside our LPBF platforms, helping customers adopt new applications with greater confidence while reducing development effort.
